Bono East Region Successfully Hosts 3rd Gaca to Promote Safe Agrochemical Use and Food Security

The Bono East Region has successfully hosted the 3rd Ghana Agrochemical and Crop Protection Exhibition and Awards (GACA 2026) in Techiman, bringing together key stakeholders within Ghana’s agricultural sector to promote safe agrochemical use, strengthen food security, and advance agribusiness development.

The two-day event, organized by Agrihouse Foundation in partnership with the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council, was held under the theme, “The Foundation of Bountiful Yields: The Pride of Harvest.”

The exhibition attracted farmers, agro-input dealers, agrochemical manufacturers, policymakers, development partners, agribusinesses, and agricultural extension stakeholders from across the country.

Delivering the welcome address, the Executive Chair of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, described GACA as a growing platform that continues to connect farmers with trusted agricultural input suppliers while encouraging innovation, responsible farming practices, and stronger partnerships within the agricultural value chain.

According to her, the initiative has over the years contributed significantly to farmer education, improved access to quality agricultural inputs, and increased conversations around productivity, sustainability, and food security.

She noted that the event has also created opportunities for agribusinesses to expand their reach while inspiring young people to explore careers within agriculture.

Ms. Akosa further highlighted the introduction of the Youth in Agricultural Input Dealership Initiative, aimed at encouraging youth participation in the agrochemical and agricultural input distribution sector.

The Bono East Regional Minister, Hon Francis Owusu Antwi commended Agrihouse Foundation for consistently hosting the event in the region and reaffirmed the Bono East Region’s position as one of Ghana’s leading agricultural hubs.

He described GACA as an important intervention platform that promotes knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and policy dialogue among agricultural stakeholders.

The Minister stressed the need for responsible agrochemical application, emphasizing that increasing productivity must not compromise environmental sustainability, food safety, or public health.

“Productivity alone is not enough. We must ask whether we are producing safely and protecting our soils, water bodies, and environment,” he stated.

He also praised the Bono East Regional Youth in Agro Input Dealership Initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with government efforts to create employment opportunities for young people and strengthen private sector participation within agriculture.

Meanwhile, the Managing Partner and Technical Director of Agromonti Company Limited, Dominic Donkoh, emphasized the vital role farmers and agro-input dealers play in Ghana’s food production system.

According to him, Ghana’s food security depends heavily on access to quality seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection products that enable farmers to improve yields and reduce crop losses.

Mr. Donkoh expressed concern over Ghana’s continued dependence on food imports despite the country’s strong agricultural potential.

He urged agro-input dealers to maintain high standards by avoiding expired and substandard products while educating farmers on proper safety measures during agrochemical application.

He further advised farmers to strictly adhere to manufacturers’ instructions to ensure safe and effective use of agrochemicals.

The event featured exhibitions, crop clinic sessions, farmer-buyer engagements, networking activities, and practical learning sessions designed to equip farmers and agribusiness stakeholders ahead of the planting season.

Participants at the event collectively called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to promote safe agricultural practices, improve productivity, and strengthen Ghana’s food security agenda.
